HOW I GOT STARTED AS A BIRD BREEDING HOBBYIST
National Capital Region Aviary is Jean Haddad (Birdman); bird breeder, exhibitor, judge and bird whisperer. This is his story and his showcase of the best he has to offer
as told by Jean Haddad...
"I immigrated to Canada in 1990 from Lebanon. I have been breeding and exhibiting birds for over 30 years. I started with European goldfinches and then moved on to type canaries. I joined the Ottawa Cage Bird Club and have been exhibiting ever since then. I have won at the Canadian National with both finches and canaries in Toronto and Montreal. I have won most of my awards with the Melanin colour bred canaries, but have many awards for the other birds as well. I especially like the challenge of working with mules.
With type canaries, I started with Borders and then added both Yorkies and Frills. I liked the Borders the best because of their size and body conformation. Now I work with various types of finches including Gouldian’s and European goldfinches. I raise and exhibit a variety of many of the colour bred canaries in both melanin and lipochrome.
I started judging both types and colour bred canaries over ten years ago. I have judged in Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria and Edmonton. I am a strong believer that to properly judge, you should have experience raising them yourself.

This hobby has brought me much pleasure and has been educational as well. Throughout the years, while pursuing this great hobby, I have met and made many friends."
